In 2006 Finding Your Voice is offering a series of exploratory vocal workshops on related topics. It is possible to enrol in the workshops as a series, a part series, or as separate individual workshops.

Designed for those of you who believe you can't sing , as well as those who have long established your vocal journey, and anyone in between, these workshops will provide a fun informative and supportive opportunity to improve your relationship with your voice, discover new ways of using it, nurture yourself with it, and understand better how it works.

N.B. Bookings must be confirmed one week before the workshop being booked for.

*   Sun 26th March:           Befriending Your Voice.
Explore your relationship with your voice as both a symbolic and physical concept. A variety of games and exercises will illuminate the relationship, and help you find ways to befriend your voice. A day to take your voice out to play and have fun!

*   Sunday 28th May:         Care for your Chords.
Knowing how to not damage your voice is important. Look after it and it will serve you well. We will continue to play with and explore the voice with particular focus on vocal care and any technical or vocal problems that group members may bring along.

*   Sunday 9th July:           Your Emotional Voice.
Today we will explore the fascinating relationship between our voice and our emotions from a variety of angles through a variety of games and exercises:
      # How our emotional life can affect the way our voice sounds, and we can use our voices consciously and unconsciously to express our emotions.
      # How at times some emotions can constrict and restrict our ability to use our voice in a healthy and expressive way, and how to overcome this.
      # How using our voices can connect us with our emotions, and help us release some which sometimes have been long buried. We can also express our joy and thus increase it feel it more fully.
      # How to express emotion in song.

*   Sun 30th July:           Befriending Your Voice 2.
Continue to play and have fun with your voice with an emphasis on vocal health!

*   Sunday 27th August:     The Problem of Pitch.
Too many adults won't sing because they have been told they are "tone deaf", or can't sing in tune. Others have difficulty with singing a bit "flat", or a bit "sharp". Almost all singers, and even the really good ones, have some problem with pitch at some times. In my experience pitch problems are most commonly a problem in technique, a problem of not knowing how to make the voice do what we want it to, especially in certain parts of the vocal range which can be problematic for many people. At other times practise in listening to differences in pitch is needed. Today we will explore what pitch is, what the body needs to do to get the voice to produce different pitches (high and low sounds)through a variety of exercises and games.

*   Sunday 15th October:    Singing Together.
Returning to the opening concept of having fun and playing with our voices, the final workshop of the series will give the attendees an opportunity to sing together in a variety of forms. Chanting, improvisation, toning, song singing, drones, and possibly some part singing. Another day for taking your voice out to play!
