ABOUT CD DANCING STARS AND MOONLIT MOUNTAINS
Recently I had the delight to listen to the new CD release by Raelene Bruinsma. "Dancing Stars and Moonlit Mountains" is a fine uncluttered acoustic album with lots of soul. From the opening bars of the upbeat blues number "Climb the Mountain" with its raw energy to the mellow "Summermoonlight" and "Dancing with the Stars" Raelene's smooth and at times soaring vocals draws the listener into her world. "The Trouble With Timing" is a clever play on words that most people will relate to. There is a change of pace with the jazz number "Twisted" with Raelene's voice in full flight and some fine trumpet solos. Raelene has written all but two of the 13 tracks on the album and has gathered a fine bunch of musicians to bring out their best. Humour, pathos and songs to make you want to dance - it's all there on Raelene's new release "Dancing Stars and Moonlit Mountains".

FESTIVAL REVIEW
Raelene Bruinsma performed on a number of occasions in different venues over three days at the Mount Beauty Music Muster in April 2005. Raelene was professional in all aspects of her performances and her workshops in voice for young and old; punctual, well-prepared, entertaining, relating well to and engaging with audience and participants. Raelene has a presence on stage which attracts an audience, and a voice and musicianship to match the interesting songs she writes. Strong and gutsy or sweet and gentle, Raelene's presentation was full of character. Our local choir attended her vocal workshop and report that they enjoyed it and learnt from it. Raelene is a performer we were glad to employ.
Rollo Kiek, Director, Mount Beauty Music Muster.

ABOUT CD DANCING STARS AND MOONLIT MOUNTAINS
Raelene Bruinsma's debut CD dancing stars and moonlit mountains is brimming with joy. Her live shows shimmer with her love of songwriting, singing and performing. The CD stays close to the spirit of her live performances with both warmth and spirit. That is not to say that all the songs are lyrically upbeat. There is a great variety of music here - lyrically and melodically. Themes traverse the political as well as the personal and the songs are mainly originals with a couple of covers included. Annie Ross' Twisted is obviously close to this singer's heart! As well providing most of the songs, vocals, guitar and flute, other skilled musicians are sprinkled throughout the recording. The most well-known of these is Mal Webb who contributes some mean trumpet licks. Congratulations Raelene, and many encores!
Christina Mimmocchi, Touchwood, Blindman's Holiday.

"One of the most beautiful melodies I've heard in a while ("Dancing with the Stars"). I woke up with it in my head."
Kristina Olsen, U.S. Singer/Songwriter, humourist and multi-instrumentalist.

ABOUT CD DANCING STARS AND MOONLIT MOUNTAINS
On this CD Raelene has teemed up with backing vocals brass, guitar, dobro, keyboards, bass and percussion to produce 11 of her own writings and 2 covers. The style is mis-stream, blues and jazz tinged folk. Her emotions and feelings can be heard in her voice as she relates events and stories of her time in the songs. This is a fine release from one of Melbourne's most enjoyed artists.
Sonia Meggs, President Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society Inc.

"Fantastic song ("It wasn't me"). The way she builds her argument is insightful and incisive."
Mundy-Turner, Internationally touring singing/songwriting duo.

"She sings from the centre of who she is: which makes
for an incredibly powerful and moving performance."

Chitra Stern, Director, Integral Yoga Centre.

"The audience knows that whatever you do will be
fantastic because we feel like you like us."

"The way you play is really exciting. Your voice is beautiful,
rich and resonant, and the guitar part doesn't overpower it:
it acts like a hammock for your voice"

Audience member.

"a breathtakingly simple blunt and confronting song ("It wasn't me").
It speaks to the heart on an incredibly complex issue,
and explores an 'ouch spot' without drawing blood."

Kristin Gillespie, SY Baptist Community Church.
